Build it Yourself

If you are handy and have some basic tools it is possible to build many of the components of a bee hive cheaply at home. Below are plans for many common components.

http://www.beesource.com/files/10frlang.pdf The standard 10 frame langstroth hive in shallow, medium and deep depths.

http://www.beesource.com/files/dadantfr.pdf Frames that are placed inside the hive 8-10 to a box. Note the height and design of the top and bottom bars of the frames vary depending on the depth of your boxes and the style of foundation you use.

http://www.beesource.com/files/ipmbottom.pdf A screened bottom board used to reduce parasitic mite populations in hives. This replaces the solid bottom board in the 10 frame hive plans above.
